Gogi, Gambling and Great Big Colds
Tonight I went for dinner with Gareth, Andy and Anna - mmmmm....gogi! (Korean BBQ).
This seems to be the ultimate Korean meal - and is my favorite.
After dinner, we returned to my apartment where a game of "Go Stop" - a Korean Traditional Game, was played. I have yet to understand exactly how the game is played - as it seems somewhat random rules- so I was simply a by-stander in tonight's game. However, from what I understand (and that is not much) the game is to match certain cards with eachother. The points are gained and eventually everyone bets money paying their cash to the person who has the most points.
Random and confusing - not unlike most things in Korea - yet fun (like most things in Korea).
Unfortunately, I awoke this morning with a wicked sore throat, which has now turned into a full head cold, so I chose not to play - for fear of contaminating the cards.
Gareth has warned me...all new teachers get sick within a week or two of coming to Korea.
Perhaps it is the change in temperature from night to day, perhaps it is the lack of sleep I have had in the past week, or the fact I have been around far too many children.
Anyways, I have been assured to expect many colds within my first six months. Hmmmmm...thank goodness for Neocitron (ahhhh....liquid of the Gods).
My second day of teaching was good - played some tongue twister games with the kids "Peter Piper Picked Peppers" - and they loved it! Gave some candy and stickers away as prizes (I have discovered that little incentives help).
Anyways, I am off to bed - determined to beat my first of apparently many colds.
Good nights friends and family - I miss you all
Colleen
