Hooray for Peppero Day!

November 11th is not a somber day in Korea. In fact, while most of the world is remembering the sacrifices of young soldiers during World War 2, Korea is busy celebrating a different sort of holiday.
This special occasion is called "Peppero Day".
Children all across this great land bring their friends and teachers chocolate covered wafer sticks, called Peppero. Mmmmmmmmmm Peppero!
This National event closely resembles a North American version of Valentines day - the children with the most pepperos are usually the most popular, as are the teachers with the most peppero.
Children are constantly asking...how many did you get?
I have to admit, I had the slightest of fears this afternoon before going to class that I would not get any peppero .....perhaps I was merely recalling childhood fears that the only valentine I would get is from the teacher. However, thanks to Korean children (and their parents for purchasing this great treat) my fears were unnecessary. I now have a small fortune...if wealth was measured in pepperos.
Nonetheless, I am happy - as were my students when I gave each of them a peppero. Ahhhh the love!
I am off to continue the celebration- meeting some foreigner friends for drinks.
HAPPY PEPPERO DAY EVERYONE!

Love Colleen
